Springtime Storm Floods Fort

by Mike Kendra on April 18, 2011

Well, it’s April, and the Fort has had it’s seemingly annual flood this weekend. A strong rainstorm drenched the entire area and flooded the areas immediately surrounding Back Creek. Apparently, Fort Shenandoah’s lower areas, including the main range, Artillery Row,and I’m assuming areas 4, 5, 6, and 7 were flooded to varying extents.

Your host was not on site during the flood, but many skirmishers were, as they attended the Spring Potomac Skirmish. I am lucky to have been alerted to the flood by Karen Rawls, and was able to use some of her photos here.

It appears that the flood was at least slightly higher than last years Early Bird flood, I’ll post additional news as I learn of it. Feel free to leave comments below if you have stories or news about the flood.
