On September 12 & 13 there was a Mid-Atlantic Regional Skirmish held at the Springtown, Pennsylvania range. This is one of my favorite events to attend, this months event was hosted by the 72nd PVI and the 2nd NJ Volunteer Infantry.

I arrived at the Springtown, PA range at about 8am on Saturday, September 12th. It was a cool and wet morning, a steady drizzle of rain would hardly let me put my umbrella down.

I did manage to get my gear under the pavilion before anything got too wet.

For this skirmish I brought my mighty .69 caliber Smoothbore, and my favorite Navy Arms Zouave Musket.

I started with my musket, and I felt great, even if I was a little bit wet.

Then I saw my first target, all I have to say is I hate doubles, but that’s a story for another time.

I continued to shoot most of the morning. The rain trickled to a stop for a while at about 10:30am, and I managed to snap a few pictures with the help of Jere Hayes of the Hampton Legion.

Unfortunately, at about noon I had to head home, so I missed the fun of the carbine competition.

When I returned with my wife and kids on Sunday, I was farmed out to shoot the musket team match. Happily I was choosen to shoot with the 6th Pennsylvania Cavalry, and we certainly had fun. It wasn’t my personal best day of shooting, but we managed a 2nd Place Medal in Class A-3.

The Top Gold Medal Team Winners at this Skirmish Were:

149TH PA VOLUNTEER INFANTRY CO. A – Winner of the Musket Team event Class A-1, they finished the event in a cool 455.9 seconds.

149TH PA VOLUNTEER INFANTRY CO. A – Also winning the Carbine Team Class A-1 event, in 412.7 seconds

I also managed to win a Gold Medal with my Musket at 50 yards in Class 1, with a 45-0X, not the best score of the day. (There was a guy who shoot a 47-0X at both the 50 and 100 yard targets that day, he just wasn’t shooting in Class 1.) I certainly enjoyed winning the medal!

Overall, Springtown is one of my favorite events, and I can’t wait to go back again next month for the Commanders Shoot!
