It was warm and wonderful weekend in the Shenandoah Valley, with the 40th Veterans Skirmish making a heck of a dent in my musket ammo for the year!
I really enjoyed this weekend, although it was hot, thankfully it was dry, and the shooting and company were fine indeed! I attended the Vet’s meeting, of course, as well as the creek party and the Musket Team matches.
The meeting was a hoot, lots of fun and joking around, and some serious issues as well, stay tuned to your next Skirmish Line, I’m sure there will be a number of stories you’ll want to get updates on. The biggest issue on the Vet Meeting platter was an idea for the expansion of the Vet’s Building and the Museum above.
Although the details are yet to be fleshed out, a set of drawings from years ago were on display showcasing a grander and larger Vet’s/Museum with an East and West wing attached. Perhaps these or similar plans will be on the table at one of the next Board of Directors Meetings, but the Veterans seem to agree an expansion is needed.
This is only my second Veteran’s Skirmish, but I believe that the new Computer “Random Lottery” method used to pick teams was a good change from the method used back in 2005. I must thank all individuals and sutlers those who donated to the Veterans Skirmish, the pickings at the prize table were grand, and everyone I’m sure took home something they needed or liked. I know I did!
Unfortunately, I missed the dedication ceremony for the new memorial plaques, but as you can see in the attached photos, they look wonderful!
On Sunday I participated in the Musket team match, I was assigned to team 5A. It was a great bunch of guys, and great shots too!
I’ll be sure to fill you in on the shooting in my next blog, and I’ll include a video I shot of the brigade shoot as well. Way to go Yankees! No, I’m not talking about baseball!
